Cupping Facial with TMJ & Wood Myofascial Vitality Technique
🔹 What is the TMJ?
TMJ = Temporo-Mandibular Joint
It’s the hinge that connects your jaw (mandible) to your skull (temporal bone).
It allows you to chew, talk, yawn, and express emotions.
🔹 TMJ Pathology (Disorders & Dysfunction)
“TMJ pathology” refers to any disease, dysfunction, or structural problem that affects the joint, muscles, or surrounding tissues. Collectively these are often called TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders).
🔸 Common TMJ Pathologies
1. Myofascial Pain Dysfunction (MPD)
Muscle spasm/tightness in jaw muscles (masseter, temporalis, pterygoids).
Often caused by stress, teeth grinding, or clenching.
2. Internal Derangement
Displacement of the articular disc (the cushioning pad inside the joint).
Can cause clicking, locking, or restricted jaw opening.
3. Degenerative Joint Disease
Arthritis (osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis) affecting the TMJ.
Leads to pain, stiffness, and joint wear.
4. Trauma-Related Pathology
Jaw injury, fracture, or whiplash leading to misalignment.
5. Inflammatory Conditions
Synovitis, capsulitis, or infection of the joint capsule.
🔹 Causes & Contributing Factors
Chronic stress & anxiety (clenching, bruxism)
Malocclusion (misaligned teeth/bite)
Poor posture (forward head posture strains TMJ)
Connective tissue disorders (e.g., hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos)
Trauma or dental procedures
🔹 Symptoms of TMJ Pathology
Jaw pain, tenderness, or stiffness
Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds
Limited or locked jaw movement
Headaches & migraines
Ear symptoms (ringing, fullness, pain)
Neck & shoulder tension

Facial Cupping with TMJ Release
Facial cupping is a gentle technique using small suction cups on the face, jaw, and neck.
How it works:
Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Releases stagnation and tension in facial muscles.
Stimulates collagen and fascia repair.
With TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) focus:
Cups are applied along the jawline, temples, and masseter muscles (the big chewing muscles).
Helps relieve jaw clenching, teeth grinding, headaches, and facial tightness.
Reduces the “locked jaw” sensation and improves jaw mobility.
Clients often report less facial tension, a softer jawline, and relief from TMJ discomfort.
Wood Myofascial Vitality Technique
This is a fusion of wood therapy (maderotherapy) and myofascial release.
Wood therapy tools: specially shaped wooden instruments are used to massage muscles and fascia.
Myofascial release: gentle, sustained pressure or stretching to soften tight connective tissue.
Vitality aspect: restores blood flow, qi/energy movement, and tissue oxygenation.
Applied to the face, jaw, and neck, it:
Breaks up adhesions in fascia that contribute to jaw pain.
Encourages drainage of puffiness and inflammation.
Stimulates acupressure points connected to Liver, Stomach, and Gallbladder meridians (which influence jaw tension and digestion).
Rebalances the nervous system (calms the “fight-or-flight” reflex stored in the jaw/hips).
When Combined Together
A Cupping Facial with TMJ + Wood Myofascial Vitality treatment:
1. Gently unlocks deep jaw tension from stress, trauma, or teeth grinding.
2. Promotes circulation & lymphatic flow for glowing, sculpted skin.
3. Provides a nervous system reset — releasing emotional stress held in the jaw/face.
4. Improves facial vitality & symmetry, softening expression lines naturally.
5. Connects both aesthetic benefits (radiance, lifted face) and therapeutic relief (TMJ pain, headaches, neck tension).
